As the “companion novel” to When You Least Expect It, wow, does this hit on everything I loved about the first book. Told from the other point of view, this makes me fall even more in love with these characters. Seriously, the first book absolutely knocked my socks off. And hearing their story again made it so much better.
The author masterfully expands upon the narrative from the first book, allowing me to delve deeper into the lives of the characters I already knew and loved. One of the standout aspects of Better Than Expected is adding depth to Hannah’s story. While I initially felt that her story was already well-rounded, this book managed to add even more depth and complexity to her character. Through the pages of Better than Expected, I developed an even stronger affection and respect for Hannah, appreciating her growth and journey in ways I never anticipated. In the first book, we hear about things that went on but didn’t “live” through them like we get to in this.
Haley Cass has consistently proven her prowess as a writer, and Better than Expected is yet another testament to her exceptional talent. Her ability to craft compelling stories within the sapphic romance community is unparalleled. Cass’s storytelling skills are impeccable, capturing the essence of human emotions and weaving them into her stories with passion and authenticity. Every book I’ve read has left me spellbound, and I eagerly anticipate each new release. Haley Cass has undoubtedly become one of my go-to authors within this genre.
In addition to Cass’s remarkable writing, the performance by Lori Prince only enhances the overall experience. Prince’s performances are consistently outstanding, and she effortlessly breathes life into the characters. Her ability to convey the emotions and nuances of the story is exceptional, and she has once again proved herself to be a remarkable narrator. Lori Prince’s contribution to the audiobook adds an extra layer of depth and enjoyment to an already captivating tale.
