Wow, do I die A LOT while living as NPH. A fun twist on the typical autobiography.
5 out of 5 stars
Choose Your Own Autobiography was incredibly well written by NPH — there are twists and turns and it is a fun and unique way to navigate the turns that were Neil Patrick Harris’s childhood, stardom as Doogie, life, marriage, and other events. You can skip some/any of these and follow the story literally like a choose your own adventure book. And if you take certain steps in “your” (aka his) life — you can end up dying tragically. Which I did on numerous occasions… seriously, I died a lot in this book.
The actual guts of this book are great, especially if you are a fan of NPH from his days as Doogie Howser, M.D. or of his Bro days on HIMYM this is for you. Also, if you knew he was a big theater/musical nerd — and actually loves magic, there are some great stories in here.
The book also features fun, short letters written to NPH from different friends and co-workers throughout his life. These add a fun twist of funny, or sappy to the already interesting story that is NPH’s life and career.
I definitely recommend this one, just as something different on the crowded celebrity memoir/autobiography shelf.
I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review.
