Audiobook: Cold Sweats and Vignettes by John Bowen (Narrated by Phil Mayes)
Excellent execution in these short stories
4 out of 5
This is a collection of short stories written by John Bowen — I would say it was 2 horror and 2 science fiction stories. The four stories don’t mesh together too well, but I promise that does not take away from the impact that this book has.
These stories did get my heart racing and scared me a from time to time. The horror in them was well written and had the right impact upon being read by narrator Phil Mayes. The science fiction stories were really unique and unlike other sci-fi that I’ve read. One of them could have been a full novel, but the other was perfect as a short story.
The whole audiobook takes an hour to get through and is a great read for a short plane ride or over a few lunch breaks.
The narration and audio quality from narrator Phil Mayes were excellent and he added to the terror and suspense that Bowen wrote.
I was given a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

I’ve loved reading since I was little when my dad would read me Dr. Suess books. Fast-forward a little and I noticed that he was always reading on his lunch breaks at work, and I wondered why. Then, I found a book that took me to another place and time, to another feeling, another sense of “being”.It was the first book that I ever fell in love with, and I’ve been chasing that feeling ever since.
