Take a Trip to the Shallows
4 out of 5 stars
I’ve had this book out for far too long, I thought that it sounded right up my alley and I don’t know why it took me this long to get to it. I’ve never read anything by Bradley, but I’ll likely check out more of his books in the future. Dead Air was the perfect combination of predictable and unpredictable. A few times I could tell what was going to happen and others I was confused and trying to make wild guesses.
When a suspense novel is written well – I’m dead set sure I know who the killer is for a long time, but end up being totally wrong. The author is able to confuse or misdirect me like a good magician can. In Dead Air – there were a times that I was sure I knew who the killer was and then as the story opened up a bit I changed my mind. Now, I ultimately was right, but honestly the twist that Bradley threw in was interesting and I genuinely didn’t see it coming.
This book was really set on fire with the narration from Fulginiti. I thought that she absolutely crushed this and really brought Kaitlyn to life. A few times I thought this would have been better with a full cast or at least with 2 narrators, but as the story progressed I took that back and I was glad that Fulginiti was the sole narrator.
Overall, Dead Air was good and at times a bit predictable, but that didn’t take away from my enjoyment of it in the least. The story within it was way better than the other reviews I peeked at before finishing the story give it. I thought that Bradley did a good job writing a suspenseful novel, giving a little bit away, and then still hammering home a good story.
Three can keep a secret, but only if two are dead.
No one knows that better than Kaitlyn Ashe, who has been running from a childhood secret her whole life. Until now. Crowned the top-rated radio DJ in Philadelphia, she is finally ready to settle down with her fiancé and new friends who know nothing about her past.
When a sudden flood of anonymous letters threatens her seemingly charmed life, she realizes that someone out there knows. But who? As the threatening letters escalate, Kaitlyn’s life spirals toward a reunion in the one place she’d hoped to never visit again: the Shallows. Isn’t her secret buried with the dead?
From the Philadelphia skyline to the rural suburbs of New Jersey, Dead Air weaves a suspenseful tale of past misdeeds and present malice as Kaitlyn plays a deadly game of cat-and-mouse with a mysterious killer who will stop at nothing to get revenge.
