A Love Letter to Old Horror
4.25 out of 5 stars
The first time I turned this book on was late at night as I was trying to relax before bed. That was a mistake. The opening line and the deep voice used made me realize this was going to be a mostly daytime listening book.
Without going into too much detail about each story inside of the collection (they were all really good and were good for different reasons) I need to mention that the performances of each story were great, too. As the opening line of my review says – it was so good in some cases that I couldn’t listen to this in a dark room at night.
It’s hard to talk about the stories without giving each one away. Also, they’re pretty short scary stories so if I mention any plots it takes away from their surprise a bit, but I noticed it wasn’t just a bunch of narrators and performers reading these stories. They performed them and the direction they were given was great, the stories felt authentic and real. They really jumped off the page.
You can definitely tell that everyone involved with this production loves old horror. This is basically a love letter to the genre and shows off some of its most interesting and unique short stories.
The production quality and overall “feel” of this audiobook is top notch. You can tell that a love of blood, swear, and tears when into creating this.
