Holy Crap This Was Cute
5 out of 5 stars
The Falling In Love Montage might be one of the cutest books I’ve read in quite some time, especially if you’re a fan of Romantic Comedies. It’s written like one and the characters basically act out the different scenes from different movies. Some of my favorite Rom-Coms are features like 10 Things I Hate About You and Love, Simon. But, I have added a few to my list (Four Weddings and a Funeral).
The Falling In Love Montage tells the story of two girls who go into something and leave everything on the table. They talked through everything knowing that the summer was going to be it. But, as anyone who knows how Rom-Coms or any sort of “let’s just do this and stay friends” goes – that’s not easy to do. Catching feelings is a little too easy when things are as good as they are with Saoirse and Ruby.
Honestly, this book had me in stitches I laughed at so many different parts of it. The characters were lovable and incredibly realistic. The issues and family drama that Saoirse was going through was super real (I helped to take care of my grandfather who had dementia) and some of this book hit home a little too much. But that’s just the sign of a great book.
The Falling In Love Montage was easily one of the cutest romantic comedy books I’ve ever read and I would LOVE to see this turned into a movie. Older audiences would appreciate the other Romantic Comedy references and younger audiences would love the couple and all of the things they go through.
The narration by Alana Kerr Collins was spot on. She was able to nail both girls’ voices and really did this book a solid.
If you’re a fan of Rom-Coms, cute stories, and characters that are easy to fall in love with, The Falling In Love Montage is for you.
Book Description:
Two girls embark on a summer of montage-worthy dates (with a few strings attached) in this hilarious and heartfelt lesbian rom-com that’s perfect for fans of Becky Albertalli and Jenny Han.
Seventeen-year-old cynic Saoirse Clarke isn’t looking for a relationship. But when she meets mischievous Ruby, that rule goes right out the window. Sort of.
Because Ruby has a loophole in mind: a summer of all the best cliché movie montage dates, with a definite ending come fall – no broken hearts, no messy breakup. It would be the perfect plan, if they weren’t forgetting one thing about the Falling in Love Montage: when it’s over, the characters have fallen in love…for real.
Ciara Smyth’s debut is a delightful, multilayered YA rom-com that will make you laugh, cry, and absolutely fall in love.
