Had Me Hooked From The Opening
5 out of 5 stars
As with every other Andrew Mayne book I’ve read up until this point, The Final Equinox was interesting from beginning to end. And as much as it was interesting, it was twice as entertaining. Mayne knows how to write a great thriller and how to get in my head throughout reading it.
The Final Equinox was one of those stories that, within a few minutes, I knew I was going to love. Then Mayne throws in the back and forth between Cray and Blackwood, seemingly checking out two completely unrelated things that had me on the edge of my seat. The combination of these two masterminds at solving crimes made me curious about how crazy this story would end up.
Of course, like all stories with Dr. Theo Cray, there were methodical parts. Parts where he needed to think through every aspect of everything. And then, like Blackwood, there were more unhinged and less predictable scenes when a wildcard was needed.
Overall, I thought that The Final Equinox, while only the second book in the combined series, was the best. I absolutely devoured this one on a road trip, and when we got home, all I wanted to do was finish it.
Book Description:
Dr. Theo Cray and FBI agent Jessica Blackwood follow a deadly celestial trail in a thrilling novel by the Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of Mastermind.
A signal is detected at the outer edge of the solar system. Computational biologist Dr. Theo Cray and magician-turned-FBI-agent Jessica Blackwood are looking – and listening – a little closer.
The man at the center of this cosmic mystery is billionaire Thomas T. Theismann. He’s spent a lifetime – and a fortune – trying to find out if we’re alone in the universe. Highly skeptical, Theo joins the effort to find the source of the signal, and he quickly enlists Jessica to look into the suspicious death of another academic at the lab. As their investigations converge, they uncover curious connections to the otherworldly contact, including a 1970s science-fiction writer and the body of an astronaut found buried in an ancient tomb.
As they delve into Theismann’s history, Theo and Jessica’s fascination with the signal intensifies. How dangerous will the investigation get? That depends on how deep into the unknown Theo and Jessica are prepared to venture.
