Cute and Funny
4 out of 5 stars
This was definitely a ‘coming home’ type of story – the main character has had a lot of things go awry in her life lately and after her father’s death – decides to move into the cabin that he liked to run away to in the small town of White Oak Lake, Louisiana.
The town is definitely a main character in this story as well. The Lure of White Oak had some of the funniest and most interesting neighbors I can remember in any book that I’ve read. The town itself was explained well, but the people… so funny and definitely one of the main staying points that this book had.
This is the second Robin Alexander book I’ve read and the second one in quick succession. While not as funny as the last book that I checked out which had me in stitches, The Lure of White Oak was still funny and quirky while also being sweet and caring. I don’t know how she’s able to pull it off so well, but it works.
I won’t go into too much detail here about the plot and the stories but I loved the warnings and interactions that each character had before things started to come into each other’s gravity pull. Alexander writes in such a way that it’s hard to put the book down and even the scenes that don’t feel important end up being big parts of the book later on.
Overall, another great story with some laughs thrown in. I enjoyed it from beginning to end.
Book Description:
The small town of White Oak Lake, Louisiana, is home to a group of colorful characters, three of whom take their Cupid duties seriously. Their pet project is Jaclyn Wyatt, a single mother who, in their opinion, needs a little help in the romance department. Jaclyn doesn’t agree, but the trio secretly springs into action when a newcomer arrives.
Morgan Chassion retreated to White Oak Lake to mentally and emotionally recover from losing her father, being dumped by her girlfriend, and the final insult, losing her job. The past few months have not been kind and solace is what she needs, but complication is what she gets.
Love’s potion is being brewed in White Oak Lake. The recipe is simple, two lonely hearts, a little time, and a dash of vulnerability. Add a little heat and the potion is complete.
