A Heartfelt Journey

4.5 out of 5 stars

The Roadtrip Agreement by Tiana Warner, narrated by the talented Anastasia Watley, is a delightful and engaging audiobook that captivated me from start to finish. I loved From Fan To Forever by Warner, so I was excited to dive into this new adventure, and it did not disappoint. The story of Coral Lavoie and Ruby Hayashi’s road trip is a perfect blend of humor, heart, and the kind of slow-burn romance that keeps you eagerly listening for more.

The interesting part is that I watch a few YouTubers who are part of the #vanlife community, so I enjoyed this one even more because of the deeper look into that (which I think Warner nails).

From the get-go, the dynamic between Coral and Ruby is electric. Coral, with her laid-back attitude and desire to make it as a social media video creator, is a stark contrast to Ruby, the meticulous minimalist vlogger with over a million followers. This clash of opposites not only provides plenty of entertaining banter but also sets the stage for both characters to grow and learn from each other. I loved how Warner played out their individual flaws and growth arcs, making their eventual bond feel earned and genuine.

What truly sets this audiobook apart is Anastasia Watley’s narration. Her ability to bring each character to life, giving them distinct voices and personalities, adds an extra layer of immersion to the story. Watley doesn’t just read the lines; she performs them, becoming an integral part of the narrative. The chemistry she conveys between Coral and Ruby, even in their most frustrating and angst-filled moments, is palpable and heartwarming. The slow burn of their relationship, filled with both tension and tender moments, had me hooked and rooting for them all the way.

The Roadtrip Agreement is more than just a romance; it’s a story about finding oneself and embracing change. The road trip along the Oregon coast is a beautiful backdrop for Coral and Ruby’s journey, both literal and emotional. As they navigate the ups and downs of their fake relationship, it becomes clear that their feelings are anything but fake. The realization of their true emotions, and the way it unfolds, is both satisfying and heartwarming, making for a deeply fulfilling listening experience.

If you’re looking for an audiobook that combines humor, heart, and a touch of adventure, The Roadtrip Agreement is a fantastic choice. Warner’s storytelling, coupled with Watley’s excellent narration, makes this a must-listen for fans of queer romance and anyone who enjoys a good, heartfelt journey.

Book Description:

A camper van, a camera, and the open road are all laid-back Carol Lavoie wants in life—and she’s using her career as a social media video creator to fund her adventures. The problem is, if she can’t work out how to get more followers soon, she’ll have to give it all away.

Minimalist vlogger Ruby Hayashi has over a million followers who watch her meticulously edited takes on cooking, van living, and her cute rescue dog. She exists in a world of perfection that is getting boring and badly needs an injection of fresh energy.

When Coral and Ruby team up for a road trip to boost their audiences, it’s a clash of opposites in what could be the change they both need. As they hit the Oregon coast, what they don’t count on is how their enthralled followers start rooting for their favorite lesbians to get together.

Could faking a relationship for the cameras be the key to going viral and boosting their careers? But even if they make peace with lying to their fans, for how long will their hearts be able to tell the difference between fake flirtation and real love?
