A Delectable Blend of Romance and Ambition
4.5 out of 5 stars
Side Order of Love by Tracey Richardson is a delightful exploration of love and ambition set against the glamorous backdrops of haute cuisine and professional golf. The story revolves around Grace Wellwood, a renowned chef with a successful cookbook, a trendy Boston restaurant, and a cooking show, and Torrie Cannon, a young hotshot LPGA tour member.
The opening of this novel was wild. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard a story start like this and it really paints Grace in a specific light. I like that it starts as she is almost at her lowest as she realizes what’s going on (or not going on) and has to pick up the pieces after making the bold and right move to move on. Grace takes a semi-forced, but well-earned vacation that is interrupted by a last-minute catering job for a women’s pro golf tournament, where she crosses paths with the enchanting Torrie. A sizzling connection ensues that challenges Grace’s resolve to avoid relationships while she licks her wounds and prompts her to seek the one thing missing from Torrie’s menu: love.
One of the standout features of Side Order of Love is the subtle and well-executed age gap between the protagonists. It adds depth to their dynamic without becoming the central focus, creating a refreshing and nuanced aspect to the story. The author adeptly weaves together the worlds of famous chefs and professional golfers, creating a unique backdrop for the exploration of trust and sacrifice in relationships.
Grace and Torrie are not only well-crafted but also powerful women at the top of their respective fields. Richardson does an excellent job of bringing them to life, making them relatable and endearing. A book featuring two hot-shot, top-of-their-career women… yes, please! As the narrative unfolds, you can’t help but root for their connection to evolve beyond the initial sizzle into something deeper and more meaningful.
Overall, Side Order of Love is a delectable blend of romance and ambition, skillfully crafted by Tracey Richardson. With its well-developed characters, subtle age gap, and the collision of two dynamic worlds, this audiobook is a must-listen for those who appreciate a charming love story set against the backdrop of success and passion. Parker Everly’s narration enhances the experience, making it a truly enjoyable journey from start to finish.
