Another Banger From Phipps & Suttkus

5 out of 5 stars

This space-jumping military sci-fi series has quickly become my new favorite, and I can’t wait for each new story to be released. The action-packed plot and well-developed characters keep me on the edge of my seat, and I’m always eager to see what happens next.

I love how the main characters take on characteristics from Phipps and Suttkus’s other stories, making this series both familiar and brand new. It’s a perfect blend of nostalgia and freshness that keeps me coming back for more.

One thing I don’t always talk about that really stood out to me is their stunning covers. Even before I started listening, I was immediately drawn in by them. The covers definitely added to my desire to dive into these stories, and I found myself even more excited to start listening once I saw them. They are truly beautiful and added an extra layer of enjoyment to my listening experience.

Space Academy Washouts was a blast to listen to, just as the other books in this series have been. I swear, every time I read a Phipps & Suttkus book I think, “they can’t possibly do it again,” and then they do. And somehow, do it even better. I love their writing styles and know before starting any book, whether it’s from a new series or one I’ve read numerous books in – I’m in for a treat and will likely be obsessed with it for a bit after finishing it.

Jeffrey Kafer is a fantastic performer and narrator; his voice is a pleasure to listen to. Whenever I see that he is attached to a story, I know I’m in for a treat. His voice is so easy to listen to, and he has a way of bringing characters to life that is truly amazing. Whether he’s narrating a romance, a fantasy, or a sci-fi novel, his performance is always top-notch and adds an extra layer of enjoyment to the listening experience. I always look forward to hearing his voice, especially in stories like this one (his ability to add the snark/wit that Phipps and Suttkus add is unparalleled).

Book Description:

“These are the voyages of the starship…something-something.”

Captain Vance Turbo has been struggling for the past few years, his reputation in tatters and most of his allies having turned against him. Offered a chance to go after a sinister crime syndicate at a peace treaty in Notha Space, he jumps at it. However, no sooner does he do so that he discovers that a malevolent AI and even more powerful forces are at work…ones that threaten everyone and everything in the galaxy. Will Vance somehow stumble his way into saving the universe again or will his luck finally run out?

Space Academy is an all-new series from the hilarious duo of C.T. Phipps (Supervillainy Saga, Agent G) and Michael Suttkus (I Was a Teenage Weredeer, Lucifer’s Star) that lampoons the space opera as well as military science fiction genres.
