Learning To Love Again
5 out of 5 stars
I don’t want to gush too much about this book but I absolutely loved the entire thing from beginning to end. I thought that both Martin and Rose were amazing characters that I really felt like I knew on a personal level (not just characters in a book).
Teach Me reads a bit like an 80s Rom-Com without all of the cheesiness (okay, with some of the cheesiness at the end). It tells the story of two people who’ve been hurt before but in totally different ways. They also came from backgrounds that really shaped who they both are today (I won’t go into detail since it’s a major plot point).
I really identified with Martin in this book, my background wasn’t as bad but I have a lot of the same issues and feel the same ways he does. It was fun to watch him grow and realize he was strong enough to ask for what he wanted. It was also nice to see a man in a book act the way that I’ve acted throughout my life and not be the one that’s picked on or the one who doesn’t end up getting the girl (no real spoilers here, it is still a happy ending romance).
And I definitely have met and befriended some Rose’s in my day. Her strong will and pride are major parts of her ethos and anyone who tried to change or take that away from her were going to be left in the dust. I love that and thought that she was an excellent character in Teach Me.
Overall, I thought that this was an excellent and cute story. Add in the great narration by Kelsey Navarro and you have a really enjoyable 8 hour romantic comedy.
Book Description:
Their lesson plans didn’t include love. But that’s about to change….
When Martin Krause arrives at Rose Owens’s high school, she’s determined to remain chilly with her new colleague. Unfriendly? Maybe. Understandable? Yes, since a loathsome administrator gave Rose’s beloved world history classes to Martin, knowing it would hurt her.
But keeping her distance from a man as warm and kind as Martin will prove challenging, even for a stubborn, guarded ice queen. Especially when she begins to see him for what he truly is: a man who’s never been taught his own value. Martin could use a good teacher – and luckily, Rose is the best.
Rose has her own lessons – about trust, about vulnerability, about her past – to learn. And over the course of a single school year, the two of them will find out just how hot it can get when an ice queen melts.
