Romero Zombie Fiction With A Twist
4 out of 5 stars
The Orphans Origins Volume 1 is a story about the beginning of a hate. It is a story about the beginning of something awful. And it is a story about what one man will do to survive.
The narration was done by Jack Wallen, Jr. does a wonderful job with this. He is easy to follow along with and progresses the story nicely. Basically, he felt like everything that Evans was looking for in a narrator. He definitely brought The Orphans to life.
Comparing a book to one of my favorite movies: 28 Day Later is rough for me. I will be constantly comparing the two and seeing if the book lives up to the movie. This one did. It was more Romero based, the zombies were scary and the main character was out for vengeance.
After I found myself being surprised by the horror aspects, I stopped looking at it as a single genre and I found myself enjoying it a lot more. This book is really well written. The story is incredibly scary and believable. The characters are well designed and felt like real people who would be going through the story. Even though we are not living through a Zombie apocalypse right now, this book gave me a sense of what that might feel like.
Mike Evans is someone to watch out for, he will scare your pants off but give you a wonderful story to back the horror back up.
I was given a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

It isn’t often you get to see the Origins of what makes a hero. The Orphans Series is exactly that, see the hero that will do everything in his power to attempt to save society. A pent up rage for the zombies who walk the street leaves him feeling responsible. Shaun a decade ago was the one that introduced the couple who fell in love and because of that the zombie outbreak was created and began. The fact that it was his own father is something that he can just barely deal with on a daily basis. Book one explains where, why, and when the outbreak happened, watch as his town and state are torn apart and follow him along his path to achieving greatness and taking the world back in the series The Orphans.
If you are in love with franchises like 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, Zombieland, Dawn of the Dead, or any fast moving strong and violently vicious zombie this really will be the series for you. I hope you enjoy and ask as an indie author if you read my work or others to please leave a review. It really does help us immensely.
