I Won’t Forget This One Soon
5 out of 5 stars
I’m really glad that Neuvel wrote this to take place in the UK. It hits a little too close to home as an American living under the current Trump administration. The Test is a perfectly crafted short story that packs a punch.
The book starts out and you think it’s just going to be someone answering test questions and getting a glimpse into their brain as they do so. But soon after this book takes a turn. We’re then introduced to another group of people (and given a peek behind the curtain a bit). Once we’ve given that glance the book takes a massive turn and really gets good.
Neuvel wrote a story that I will probably never forget. He didn’t need 400 pages to do so either. The Test is one of those stories that needed to be told, but also a story that ended exactly as it needed to. I wasn’t sure how it was going to finish, but it was absolute perfection.
Overall, easily one of the best stories I’ve read in 2019 and definitely one of the best short stories I’ve ever read.
