Knocked My Socks Off

5 out of 5 stars

So, off the bat I need to let everyone know that I’m either going to royally spoil this book or die trying not to. There’s some major stuff that happens in it (granted a lot of it happen in the last few chapters) but just understand that I need to talk about the craziness and the amount that this book threw me for a loop.

Lisa Power is an author who lives in a small town, but she’s from an even smaller town known as Thief River Falls. She wrote her fourth book, which has just been optioned by Reese Witherspoon’s production company. This book is based on the sleepy town she grew up in named Thief River Falls.

The story tells of a little boy who was buried alive, escapes, and ends up being saved by a woman living alone. Suddenly, one night things from the book start to play out similarly in her own life. A little boy shows up at her house. He can’t remember his name and he won’t talk about wha happened to him, but it’s obvious it was something awful. Lisa is forced to help him while also freaking out that the stories seem to be matching up.

The story itself is fast-paced and had me on the edge of my seat throughout. I couldn’t wait to figure out just what was going to happen. Freeman was able to write about Lisa in a way that made her feel real. The whole book felt real. It really started to freak me out.

And, as I mentioned above, when it got to the ending. Holy crap. I honestly guessed it early on but I thought it was the most ridiculous thing. So when it was finally all revealed I was absolutely floored. Like had to pause the audiobook. I couldn’t deal. Freeman completely and utterly played me and I loved it.

It’s rare that I fall for a book this bad. It’s even more rare that a book has me pause it in the throws of its reveal because it was such a 180 from what I was expecting.

Overall, if you like a deeply twisted, psychological thriller – this one should be right up your alley.
