A Cute Christmasy Melting Ice Queen Story
5 out of 5 stars
I went into this expecting a really cute Christmasy book and I got that and so much more. I’ve surprisingly only read one other title by Jae (The Roommate Arrangement) – which was also insanely cute. Under A Falling Star had me smiling throughout while also trying to figure out how it was going to end. I had a feeling of what was coming but things kept coming up to change the narrative a bit.
Under a Falling Star was an ice queen book, since Dee was considered to be the worst person to work under. Austen’s opening scenes with her (no spoilers) were so funny. Jae was able to continue to insert random jokes or things while Austen had no idea what was actually going on. The circumstance that led them to their first meeting ended up being a really funny and cute story later in the book, but when it was happening I could tell it was going to go one of two ways.
The start and end of Under A Falling Star was set at Christmastime but the book itself has some time in between as well. It was still the super cute Christmasy novel I wanted and needed just before Christmas. I didn’t realize this was a new recording of a book that Jae already released – but knowing that and knowing that the kindle edition it was originally published in 2014 helped with some of the scenes with older technology (something a lot of people probably won’t even notice).
I’m really glad I picked this one up to read. I flew through it because I HAD to know what was going to come of Dee and Austen. Abby Craden, as always, knocks this one out of the park. Her performance was perfect for both women and she really made this book fly off of the pages.
A new job and a hot but grouchy boss for Christmas.
Falling stars are supposed to be a lucky sign, but not for Austen. Her new job as a secretary in an international games company isn’t off to a good start. Her first assignment – decorating the Christmas tree in the lobby – results in a trip to the ER after Dee, the company’s second-in-command, gets hit by the star-shaped tree topper.
Dee blames her instant attraction to Austen on her head wound, not the magic of the falling star. She’s determined not to act on it, especially since Austen has no idea that Dee is practically her boss.
Contains mature themes.
